Man United 2-1 Chelsea

This is the second time in the Premier League 2023/24 season that the Scotland midfielder scored a brace at Old Trafford. McTominay became the hero as he scored the injury-time to beat Brentford in October, which was more thrilling than he did against Chelsea.

The home team registered 28 shots against Mauricio Pochettino’s team but could not thoroughly dominate the game as they wanted.

McTominay’s first effort was a decent strike from 12 yards as the rebound from Harry Maguire’s blocked header bounced kindly for him.

Then, after former Man City’s wonderkid Cole Palmer had leveled just before the break, McTominay stole in at the far post to power home Alejandro Garnacho’s cross 21 minutes from time.

The 26-year-old thought he had a first career hat trick but wasted Antony’s setup by finishing into the ground. But that was not necessary, as the Red Devils got away with three points.

McTominay has now scored more Premier League goals this season than all of Man United’s forwards combined (4), and today he saved Bruno Fernandes, who missed an early penalty despite using his signature run-up that clinched him a 90% conversion rate.

Chelsea put significant pressure toward the end of the game, but United survived.

He should have had a first career hat trick after being set up by Antony, but he scuffed his finish into the ground.

Man United also escaped back-to-back defeats and moved to sixth place, while Chelsea is in a deeper crisis, remaining 10th.
