In the history of the WNBA, there has only been one player to measure at least seven feet tall. Height is a vary rare commodity in WNBA basketball. Compare to NBA where almost every team has a least one seven footer player, there is a scarcity of tall women in WNBA and other professional basketball leagues.

10. Sylvia Shaqueria Fowles height is 6 ft 5 in

Sylvia Shaqueria Fowles is one of the WNBA’s most dominant players today and she is also one of the world’s tallest female basketball players. Sylvia Fowles was born on 6 October, 1985 in Miami, Florida, United States. At 35 years old, Sylvia Fowles’ height is 6 ft 5 in (196.0 cm). Fowles joined the Lynx in July 2015 and was awarded the MVP of the 2015 WNBA Finals, she was also named the WNBA Defensive Player of the Year for the third time in 2016. In the history of WNBA, she is also the third player to dunk in an All-Star game, doing so in the 2009 WNBA All-Star game.

Carolyn Moos will always be remembered for being the woman who almost married the NBA’s first openly gay player Jason Collins. She was once engaged to former NBA player Jason Collins, the first publicly gay athlete to play in any of the four major North American pro sports leagues.

Moos was born on 23, May 1978 and developed her interest during school days because of her fast-growing height. She began playing basketball in the sixth grade as even in her youth, she was quite tall, standing over six feet tall at 13 years old. Carolyn Moos stands 6.6ft height and is one of the tallest female basketball players in the WNBA.

8. Kara Wolters Drinan (height 6 ft 7 in)

Kara Wolters Drinan, born on 15 August 1975, was called ‘Big Girl’ and rightfully so because she stands 6 ft. 7 in. or 2.01 m. She is one of the tallest basketball players to ever play for the University of Connecticut and one of the tallest female basketball players of WNBA. Aside from winning the gold medal at the 2000 Olympics, she also played for the U.S. women’s national basketball team which won the gold medal at the 1998 World Championships.

7. Katharen Ruth Mattera height is 6 ft 7.5 in.

Katharen Ruth “Katie” Mattera is another tallest female basketball player in the WNBA. She is also an American professional female basketball player who is now a coach. She is 6’7.5 inches (2.02 m) tall and considered the 7th tallest female basketball player in the world.

Katharen Ruth “Katie” Mattera was born on 17 November 1982 and began playing basketball at a young age. Her height helped her in becoming a professional basketball player. She was a three time South Big Conference Player of the Year and the South Big Conference All-time leading shot blocker. She retired from basketball as a player and now she is serving as the head Coach of the Cornerstone University women’s basketball team and has been such since 2012.

6. Brittney Griner height is 6 ft 8 in.

Brittney Griner is also an American professional female basketball player and stands 6ft 8 inches. Griner currently plays for the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA. She was born on 18 October 1990 and from childhood she was unusually tall. She’s currently the 2nd most well paid WNBA player of 2021.

One of the reasons why she decided to be a professional basketball player was because of her height. Since joining the WNBA, she’s led the league in blocks for five straight seasons. She won the NBA title in 2014 and was named to the All- WNBA First team that season. This two time Defensive Player of the Year winner is a four-time WNBA All-star and is the WNBA’s current scoring champion.

5. Maria Stepanova height is 6 ft 8 in.

Growing up, Maria Stepanova, born 23 February 1979, was called giraffe and ostrich by her peers, which offended her as a kid growing up. Maria Stepanova was once the tallest player on the Russian National basketball team and the 4th tallest player in the history of the WNBA. She was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury with the 8th overall pick of the 1998 and played three seasons in the WNBA for five seasons from 1998-2005.

She represented Russia at the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2008 Beijing Olympics where she helped her Motherland win bronze medals on both occasions. She is a three time Russian Female Basketball Player of the Year and a three time FIBA Europe Women’s Player of the Year and becuase of this she was Honored Master of Sports in Russia and received the Medal of the Order of Merit to the Fatherland for her achievement in Sports.

4. Lindsay Taylor height is 6 ft 8 in.

Lindsay Taylor, born 20 May 1981, once said that she had a ‘bird’s eye view of everything’ on the basketball court. During the 2005 WNBA draft she was the Houston Comets’ 2nd round pick. At 6 ft 8 inches, Lindsay Taylor was the tallest female basketball player in the history of the UC Santa Barbara women’s basketball program. She even helped the team reach the 2004 NCAA Sweet Sixteen which was the farthest the school has ever gone in its history.

She only had a short stint in the WNBA and played for four teams. Taylor though had a successful professional career overseas and she went on to play with plenty of success in Europe and Asia. She played in the WNBA, KBSL, LFB, WKBL, Polish Women’s League, WCBA, and Angola Women’s Basketball League.

3. Elizabeth Cambage’s height is 6 ft 8 in.

Elizabeth Cambage took up basketball to make friends, she didn’t just gain new friends but also fell in love with the game.

In 2009 she gained attention while playing for the Australian Under 20 National Championships. She was even called the ‘next Lauren Jackson’ by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. After playing five seasons in the WNBL, Cambage was drafted by the Tulsa Shock with the 2nd overall pick in the 2011 WNBA Draft but she only played one season with Tulsa. Despite that, she made the 2011 WNBA All-Star team in 2011 and was named to the WNBA All-Rookie team that year. Cambage went to China to sign a lucrative $400K deal with the Zheijang Chouzhou club.

Currently, she plays for the Melbourne Boomers in Australia’s WNBL and currently the 4th most paid WNBA player for 2021 and known as one of the hottest WNBA players of 2021.

2. Zheng Haixia height 6 ft 8.5 inches

Zeng Haixia is one of the most decorated international players of all-timez. She represented China in four Olympic Games and helped the team win the Bronze medal in 1984 and the Silver medal in 1992.

In 1997, she retired from the Chinese national team and pursued her ambition to play in WNBA. She played for the Los Angeles Sparks from 1997 to 1998 before returning to China to coach the PLA women’s team.

Zheng Haixia won the 1997 Ross Perrot Sportsmanship Award, making her the first international player and first Asian to win one of the WNBA’s coveted awards. With her .618 accuracy she led the WNBA in field goal percentage that season.

1. Malgrozata ‘ Margo’ Dydek height 7 ft 2 inches

Margo Dydek is the tallest female professional basketball player in the world. Stands at 7 ft 2 inches, She was the 1st overall pick in the WNBA’s 1998 Draft by the Utah Starzz. She played a total of 323 WNBA games in 11 seasons.

Dydek holds the all-time leader in blocks with 877 during her WNBA career. She led the league in blocks in all but two seasons and in blocks per game in eight seasons. She last played for the L.A. Sparks in 2008 before retiring to become a coach for the Northside Wizards in the Queensland Basketball League.

Sadly, she died in 2011 after suffering a severe heart attack at her home in Brisbane.
