Man City beat Arsenal 3-1 – Highlights

For the first time since third week of the season, the Gunners stepped down from Premier League’s summit, and no one else other than Pep Guardiola’s Man City made that happen.

The home team started quite well, with chances from Eddie Nketia and Granit Xhaka took turn and threaten inside Ederson area.

City stroke back with Erling Haaland’s attempt after 15 minutes but managed to shoot it wide from an acute angle.

Then came the opener, with a bit of luck but Man City’s heavy pressure on Arsenal paid back.

Kevin de Bruyne put City in front as the Belgian midfielder brilliantly chipped Aaron Ramsdale, but it was Tomiyasu’s careless pass that benefited the visitors.

Deadlock was broken, but Arsenal reacted well to the setback and eventually got their reward before half-time break.

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson committed a foul with him clattering into Nketiah in the post. Man City’s players gathered around referee Anthony Taylor but he insisted on a penalty kick for the home team, which was converted calmly by Bukayo Saka.

Second half was on fire

The second-half started with the atmosphere getting hotter as Mikel Arteta and De Bruyne were involved in a spat after the Arsenal boss nudged the ball away from the Belgian as he looked to retrieve it for a throw-in.

City thought they would be handed a penalty from Gabriel’s dragging Haaland down in the box as the pair fought for the ball.

However, VAR intervened and showed that the Norwegian striker was narrowly offside before reaching the box, the penalty was ruled out.

There were signs of sloppinesses from Arsenal’s players, with a weak backpass from Gabriel led to Haaland crossing for Grealish to curl home and re-establish the lead.

Some might argue that Tomiyasu was at foul again since his attempt on blocking Grealish’s shot eventually turned the ball away from Ramsdale’ reach.

Things were out of reach and the game was out of control for Arsenal, while Man City’s getting smoother with the lead.

Then three points were solidly secured as Haaland turned home a cross from De Bruyne, within eight minutes before the final whistle.

In the matter of weeks, Arsenal was beaten by Man City twice, with FA Cup fourth round was prior to this Premier League mid-week fixture.

The Manchester side extends their winning run over Arsenal to 11 games in the local league and leave Arsenal with no choice but winning the rest of the season.

Arsenal have now lost three of their last four in all competitions as their title tilt has taken a wobble, although a game in hand on Pep Guardiola’s men could possibly change the race later on.

The sign of something big comming?

Reigning champions Manchester City now moved ahead of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League after their crucial win at Emirates.

The Gunners have led the way since the third week of the season but were knocked off and have themselves to blame.

According to Opta stats, this is not good for Gunners’s fans:

3 – Tonight was only the third time in Premier League history that 2nd place beat 1st place in a match to overtake them in the table at least half-way into a season, after Chelsea v Man Utd (Apr 2010) & Man City v Man Utd (Apr 2012) – both of whom went on to win the title.
