Chetan Sharma resigns after TV sting operation
Chetan Sharma had been reappointed to the role only in January as India’s chairman of selectors, but it ended in shock fashion.
Chetan Sharma has resigned from his post as India’s chairman of selectors after being caught in an undercover TV sting operation.
The now-former BCCI chief selector, who is 57, played 23 Test matches and 65 ODIs for India between 1984 and 1994, sent his resignation to BCCI Secretary Jay Shah who accepted it.

What caused Chetan Sharma resign?
A video footage is said to have sparked it all, and it got involved with issues related to former captain of the Indian national team and legendary cricketer Virat Kohli.
On February 14, an Indian TV news channel released video footage of Sharma talking about various matters relating to the national team. It included alleged issues between Virat Kohli and former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, and Jasprit Bumrah’s injury.
Sharma appeared to have been unaware that he was being filmed while mentioning bizarrely about Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, former Indian captain and ex-BCCI Sourav Ganguly and several other Idian players.

A senior BCCI was quoted:
“Yes, Chetan has tendered his resignation to BCCI secretary Jay Shah and his resignation has been accepted. His position had become untenable after the sting operation,”.
The decision was said to be made by Sharma, all by himself and voluntarily:
“He resigned voluntarily and wasn’t asked to resign.”

Sharma was reinstated as chief selector only in January.
His exit leaves India’s selection panel comprising Salil Ankola, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee and S Sharath, with the BCCI yet to appoint a new chairman.
