Lionel Messi won FIFA The Best after leading Argentina to the victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
This is Messi’s second time crowned the elite individual title, which was hold by FIFA as he scooped the 2019 award.

Deserved victory for Messi
The PSG forward scored seven goals at the World Cup 2022, including a double in the final against Kylian Mbappe’s France.
2022 FIFA The Best was a close call as Messi had to see off tough competitions from Karim Benzema and Mbappe to win the award.
Benzema won everything possible with Real Madrid as the French striker played an pivotal role in the Champions League and La Liga. However, Benzema did not attend the ceremony.
He is the fourth-highest scorer in Champions League history with 88 goals behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Robert Lewandowski.
Mbappe was the top scorer at the 2022 World Cup with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final as France lost to Argentina on penalties.
Mbappe starred with the national team and scored important goals in the World Cup 2022 in which he was top scorer with eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final. He finished 2022 with 56 goals in 56 games for club and country
However, Messi’s excellent form for PSG this season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions, has played an important role in leading him to the award.
Messi and Mbappe sat together at the ceremony in Paris, with Messi watching as Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni won The Best FIFA Men’s Coach Award.

“It’s amazing. It’s an honour for me to be here tonight and win this award,” said Messi.”Without my team-mates I wouldn’t be here. It was an amazing year and I achieved the dream that I’ve been hoping for so long and finally, I managed to achieve it.”
“It [the World Cup] is the most wonderful thing that’s happened to me in my career.”
