The Real Madrid’s defender has been receiving negative comments since his votes were revealed as Messi won FIFA The Best with far more points than Kylian Mbappe and Karim Benzema.

The defender was trending on social media, and not for a good reason.

Alaba is receiving racist comments from Real Madrid fans in his latest IG post, after Alaba voted Leo Messi ahead of Benzema for The Best 2022 award. The hashtag #AlabaOut has also been seen everywhere.

Alaba explained his pick

The Real Madrid centre-back has released a statement on his Instagram account following negative comments by some Real Madrid fans.

Regarding FIFA The Best Award:
The Austrian national team vote for this award as a team, not me alone. Everyone in the team council is able to vote and that's how it's decided.

As what could be read from the man himself, he was not the only one who voted, but he was joined by teammates from the national team.

Even with his latest statement, the 30-year-old player still could satisfy everybody. Some fans pointed out that Alaba mention Benzema as “best striker in the world”, not “best player in the world”, which was reflected on his vote for Messi in FIFA The Best player.
