Real Madrid 3-1 Espanyol

Los Blancos came from behind to beat Espanyol at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Vinicius Jr and Eder Militao both scored for the reigning La Liga champions.

The home team struggled as Espanyol was the better side who had their early lead when Joselu scored inside seven minutes.

Eduardo Camavinga was responsible for the conceded goal when his mistake benefited the visitors to move the ball down Madrid’s left. Joselu was on-point with his precise finish into Thibaut Courtois’s top corner, leaving the Belgium no chance to save.

It took Carlo Ancelotti’s men 15 mins later to have their equalizer, thanks to Vinicius’ signature move.

The Brazilian forward got the ball on the left, dribbled into the box and clinically picked out the back of the net.

Then Eder Militao stepped up to complete the comeback when he was on the end of a inch-perfect cross from Aurelien Tchouameni to head if off the woodwork.

Looking totally fresh after getting in front, Real Madrid were comfortable throughout the second half, but the home fans had to wait until injury time to see Marco Asensio bagged a third and seal three points.

Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Barcelona

Raphinha takes charge at San Mames as the Brazilian winger scored the only goal to beat Athletic Bilbao.

Raphinha scored the only goal of the game as Barcelona survived a late VAR call to beat Athletic Club 1-0 at San Mames on Sunday. 

There were very few chances in an quite silent first half, but the host almost celebrated when Raul Garcia came close to score but the bar denied his hit from a corner.

In the other end, Robert Lewandowski shot straight at the goalkeeper after being fed by Frenkie de Jong.

The only goal of the game arrived on the stroke of halftime, with Raphinha firing home after good work and sublime assist from Sergio Busquets. 

It was the winger’s ninth goal of the season in all competitions but was only given following a VAR review after originally being ruled offside. 

Second half was almost uneventful, but not for the final fiery 15 minutes. Alex Berengeur hit the post and Inaki Williams put the ball in the back of the net.

However, upon review, VAR ruled out Williams’s goal as Muniain had handled in the move before his teammate score.

Barca held on for a ninth 1-0 win in LaLiga this season and a 19th clean sheet in 25 games.

This was a crucial win ahead of El Clasico next Sunday, if they beat Madrid next Sunday, Barca will be 12 points clear with 12 to play.
