And the Argentinian did not let his fans go home empty hand, despite only coming off the bench against Mexico’s Cruz Azul in a League Cup match on Friday night.

Miami, which Messi signed a two-and-a-half-year contract, scored first but then conceded a goal.

Then Messi came in, Inter Miami were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out, and that’s it; we all know what comes next.

He duly fired a perfect strike into the top corner, winning the game, and was mobbed by jubilant teammates. The referee blew the whistle shortly after, and the 2-1 victory was complete.
