Ancelotti hopes Kroos will reconsider his retirement

Carlo Ancelotti said he hopes Real Madrid veteran Toni Kroos will reconsider his retirement after playing his last game for the club.

Real Madrid want Kroos reconsider his retirement

Kroos, 34, set up the opening goal for Dani Carvajal, as Madrid claimed their record 15th European Cup title by defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley.

The midfielder won his sixth Champions League trophy — five with Madrid and one with Bayern Munich.

However, Kroos said he will hang up his cleats after playing for Germany at Euro 2024 this summer.

“I’m really grateful to Kroos,” Ancelotti said. “He finished at the very top, there is no way to finish higher than this. He had the boldness to finish it [his career] and he is a legend at this club.”

The Italian coach said he and Real Madrid are hoping for Kroos to “change his mind” about his retirement.

“All the fans are grateful to him for attitude, his professionalism. I’ve told him we are waiting for him to change his mind — we are waiting for you.”

Replacing Kroos

There will never be another player like Kroos at the Bernabéu, but Madrid is expected to announce the signing of French superstar Kylian Mbappé.

Nonetheless, Ancelotti will look for other talents to fill the void left by Kroos.

“We have lost an important player, but we have players who can replace him and we will adapt and play a slightly different way,” Ancelotti said. “We have fantastic players and the resources to remain competitive.
