REAL MADRID WON CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL: RECORDS AND HISTORY MADE AFTER VICTORY AT WEMBLEY
Fresh off from the 15th Champions League title, Real Madrid’s site crashed when they announced Mbappe.
The 25-year-old striker left PSG after his contract with the Ligue 1 side expired at the end of last season, and it was an inevitable move for him to be a part of the 3.0 Galaticos.
Within minutes of the official announcement, Real Madrid created a shockwave on all social media platforms. On the La Liga side’s X/Twitter account, there have been nearly 20 million interactions with comments and likes.
The 2023/24 double winner’s site crashed as the excitement of Madridistas and the wider footballing public has seemingly led to the club’s website going down.
Madrid has long courted Mbappe (some sources stated it was back when Mbappe was only a 12-year-old teenager). However, each turn has seen him ultimately stay at Paris Saint-Germain, signing several bumper contracts.
Last summer, however, he made it clear he would not be triggering a one-year extension before announcing that he would be leaving at the end of the season on a free.
So, what is so marvellous about Mbappe’s contract at Los Blancos?
Numbers behind Mbappe’s contract at Real Madrid
Mbappe had signed several improved contracts at Paris Saint-Germain, but the Spanish club reached an agreement with him in February.
There have been numerous memes about how Madrid could bargain Mbappe’s salary to enjoy mammoth figures of more than 50% less than what he earned in Paris.
After signing a five-year contract, he has agreed to take a major pay cut. The 25-year-old is due to receive 15m euros net (£12.8m) a season at Madrid, down from the 25m euros net (£21.4m) he earned in Paris.
At PSG, his deal included a staggering $180 million signing-on bonus spread throughout his three-year contract. In addition to the signing-on fee, Mbappe also gets a loyalty payment for each year he remains at the club.
Of course, a player at Mbappe’s level will be awarded handsome bonuses and add-ons when he joins Madrid.
Real Madrid reportedly agreed to a deal that would see the Frenchman receive around €150 million as a signing-on fee, money that the club saved by signing Mbappé on a free transfer. In total , Madrid are expected to spend around €500 million ($540m) to bring Mbappé to the Santiago Bernabeu, including:
- Salary: €15 million (£12.8 million) a season
- €150 million (£128 million) signing-on bonus to be paid over five years
