SHARMA TO CONTINUE PLAYING FOR INDIA IN ODIs FORMAT AFTER RETIRING FROM T20I
Furthermore, the 37-year-old Sharma vowed to continue playing for India in the ODIs format after retiring from the Twenty20 International (T20I) last month.
Moreover, Sharma announced his retirement from T20I after he helped India win the T20 World Cup 2024 title.
India defeated South Africa in the final in Barbados, where they got stranded for several days.
“I just said it. I don’t go that far ahead,” Sharma said at an event in Dallas over the weekend.
“So clearly, you will be seeing me play for a while,” he added.
It would be recalled that Sharma joined fellow veteran cricketer Virat Kohli in announcing their T20I retirements after the final.
RAHUL DRAVID GETS HEARTWARMING TRIBUTE FROM SHARMA, WIFE
Moreover, that match was also the last time Rahul Dravid served as India’s head coach.
For that, Dravid got a heartwarming tribute from Sharma and his wife Ritika Sajdeh.
“You (Dravid) are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you,” Sharma said.
“I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished,” he added on an Instagram post.
On the other hand, Sharma’s wife referred to Dravid as Sharma’s “work wife.”
“My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that, too,” Sharma noted.
INDIA TEAM PHYSIOTHERAPIST PAYS TRIBUTE TO SHARMA, DRAVID
Meanwhile, India team physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain also paid tribute to Sharma and Dravid, describing them as two “most selfless individuals.”
“But what truly sets them apart is their respect for everyone’s opinions and their ability to make each person feel valued,” Jain wrote on Sharma and Dravid on Instagram.
“Even after significant victories, their focus remains on what we could have done better,” he added.
Jain shared his post along with a picture of him flanked by Sharma and Dravid on his side.
The physio lauded the two for including the “team” concept in every conversation they had during India’s run towards the T20 World Cup title.
“‘Team’ is at the heart of every conversation and meeting that they are involved with,” Jain said.
