THIBODEAU, KNICKS AGREE ON 3-YEAR EXTENSION WITH BID TO WIN EAST, NBA TITLE

Furthermore, Thibodeau and the Knicks have agreed on a three-year contract extension.

The Knicks are seeking to win the Eastern Conference and contend for an NBA title.

The new deal will make Thibodeau stay with the Knicks through the 2027-28 season, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.

Moreover, the 66-year-old two-time NBA Coach of the Year will be up for his longest tenure as a head coach.

Thibodeau had his first NBA head coaching role with the Chicago Bulls (2010-2015) before moving to the Minnesota Timberwolves (2016-2019).

He became the Knicks coach in 2020.

KNICKS PRESIDENT CAPS STRONG SUMMER WITH COACH’S EXTENSION DEAL

Moreover, Knicks president Leon Rose is capping a strong summer of wheeling and dealing with Thibodeau’s extension deal.

Rose was responsible for acquiring Mikal Bridges, keeping free agent OG Anunoby, and re-signing All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson.

Meanwhile, going to the Knicks was a full-circle moment for Thibodeau.

His father, Thomas Sr, was a Knicks fan because Eddie Donovan, the coach of his alma mater St Bonaventure, left the school to become New York’s coach and general manager.

Interestingly, Thomas Sr introduced his son to Knicks fandom at an early age.

Thibodeau became a Knicks assistant coach under Jeff Van Gundy from 1996 to 2003.

MARK BRYANT TO JOIN THIBODEAU AS ASSISTANT IN KNICKS COACHING STAFF

Meanwhile, Mark Bryant is set to join Thibodeau as an assistant in the Knicks coaching staff, SNY NBA Insider Ian Begley reported on Wednesday.

The 59-year-old Bryant is considered one of the top big man coaches in the NBA.

He spent the last 19 years as an assistant coach, starting as Don Nelson’s deputy with the Dallas Mavericks in 2004.

Moreover, Bryant would join coach Brian Hill’s staff with the Orlando Magic in 2005 and work with then-young big man Dwight Howard.

He would also work with coach Monty Williams twice with the Phoenix Suns and the Detroit Pistons last season.

Under Phoenix, Bryant was responsible for the development of center DeAndre Ayton.

He (Bryant) taught me a lot of tricks, a lot of things that I need. He basically polished up my game, like the cherry on top,” Ayto told the Suns’ team site in 2020.
