Former India coach welcomes cricket return in 2028 LA Olympics

Former India coach Rahul Dravid welcomes the return of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics as he arrived in Paris on Sunday.

FORMER INDIA COACH LAUDS CRICKET RETURN IN LA GAMES

Furthermore, former India coach Dravid lauded cricket’s return to the LA Games.

Moreover, Dravid is in Paris to attend a panel discussion.

The event will carry the theme “Cricket at the Olympics: Dawn of a New Era.”

Additionally, the former coach is convinced cricketers around the world are going to “fight tooth and nail” to play.

“People are going to want to win that gold medal, stand on the podium, and be a part of the Games Village,” Dravid said.

“They will take this seriously, and players will fight tooth and nail to be out there,” he added.

Moreover, Dravid says getting the men’s and women’s Olympic gold for India at the LA Games “would be nice.”

“The dream for me is to have a fantastic cricket tournament, hopefully, Indian men and women winning the gold which would be nice,” the coach said.

“As you get closer, I have no doubt that teams will be preparing and checking out facilities,” he added.

Furthermore, Dravid went nostalgic.

He recalled US track legend Carl Lewis winning the gold medal in the 1984 LA Olympics.

“You always want to be part of great events like this,” the coach said.

“The environment, the energy – it’s a dream come true,” he added.

Additionally, Dravid joked that he might resort to applying for a commentator job just to be in LA for the Games.

“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to play, but I will make every effort to be in LA in some capacity or another,” the coach said.

“If not for anything else, I will try to get a media job,” he added in jest.

Meanwhile, International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive officer Geoff Allardice, who joined Dravid at the panel discussion, guarantees cricket to be one of the “star attractions” in LA.

“I think cricket will be one of the star attractions in os Angeles… when you see global stars of big sports around the world competing in one city at a time,” Allardice said.

“We are going to be very, very strong come 2028,” he added.
