STACKHOUSE TO BRING PHYSICALITY TO WARRIORS’ DEFENSE UNDER KERR

Furthermore, expect Stackhouse to bring physicality to the Warriors’ defense under Kerr’s coaching staff.

The 49-year-old recently retired NBA player has been added to Kerr’s staff during the off-season in a role he inherited from former assistant Mike Brown.

Moreover, Brown left the Warriors after their 2022 title run to become head coach of the Sacramento Kings.

Stackhouse joins Terry Stotts and Kris Weems in Kerr’s staff, as the Warriors seek to go on a deeper run in the upcoming 2024-25 season.

“Physical – that’s the one word that I would say. You’ve got to be able to scramble, you’ve got to be able to rotate, and you have to see things,” Stackhouse said.

‘STACK’ TO BRING ‘DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE BALL’ TO GOLDEN STATE

Moreover, the former player known as “Stack” vows to bring the “defensive side of the ball” to Golden State.

From coaching the Toronto Raptors’ G League team to the Memphis Grizzlies as an assistant and a head coaching gig at Vanderbilt University in 2019, Stackhouse means business in defense.

“And what (my teams) do on the defensive side of the ball is showing himself well,” Stackhouse said.

He was referring to his time with the D League and at Vanderbilt, where he coached for five seasons until last year.

“The teams when I was in Memphis as well,” he added, noting the defensive approach he provided on that team.

GREEN’S DEFENSIVE MINDSET ALIGNS WITH STACK’S PHILOSOPHY FOR WARRIORS

Furthermore, Draymond Green’s defensive mindset perfectly aligns with Stack’s philosophy he wants to bring for the Warriors.

“We’re going to talk some more when we get there and really lock in. But a lot of stuff that I want to implement, he does naturally,” Stackhouse said of the Warriors’ defensive lynchpin.

“He’s not the problem. That’s first and foremost. What he brings is his competitiveness. I can relate. All the way,” he added.

Moreover, Stackhouse will try to address Golden State’s defense, which went down from No.2 (106.6) in 2022 to 14th (113.4) in 2022-23.

Additionally, the Warriors were 15th (114.5) in 2023-24.

“I think on the defensive side of the ball, Steve (Kerr) and Mike (Brown) were looking to maybe get a little bit of help there,” Stackhouse said.

“When Mike left, things changed a bit, going toward the middle of the pack on defense,” he added.

With the proper adjustments, Stackhouse believes he can make a difference with Kerr to help the Warriors contend for a title again.
