MANCHESTER UNITED COULD START SANCHO AS TOP STRIKER THIS SEASON INSTEAD OF HOJLAND: TEN HAG

Furthermore, Manchester United could start Sancho as the team’s top striker this season instead of the injured Hojland, says Ten Hag.

The 24-year-old English winger will be asked to play a bigger role as Hojland is dealing with a hamstring injury.

Hojlund sustained the injury during the first game of United’s US tour match against Arsenal.

Moreover, Hojland is expected to miss six weeks to recover.

“That is what we can do (Sancho as a starter) if we don’t have the availability of Rasmus,” Ten Hag said.

“We know he (Sancho) can play in wide areas, but also as a false striker, he’s an option,” he added.

JOSHUA ZIRKZEE CAN ALSO BE AN OPTION AS STRIKER, UNITED MANAGER SAYS

Moreover, Joshua Zirkzee can also be considered an option as United’s starting striker, according to the manager.

“But of course, Joshua Zirkzee, he’s coming in, he has started training, but also consider that he is not so long in training, so that will take time,” Ten Hag said.

“And he has to adapt to English football and our way of playing as well,” he added.

Furthermore, Zirkzee was acquired from Bologna through a £36.5 million signing but has yet to train with United.

He returned to Carrington recently after he spent his summer break rather than join United’s US tour.

Meanwhile, Sancho is returning to United after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.

MARCUS RASHFORD CAN ALSO PLAY HOJLAND ROLE

Furthermore, Ten Hag also welcomes tapping Marcus Rashford to play Hojland’s role in the team.

However, the United manager may want the England forward to stay in his attacking role on the left.

“I think that Marcus has done it (striker’s role) before and he can do it, and it’s definitely an option,” Ten Hag said.

“But I think the most productive from the left, starting wide and coming inside. So when he can arrive there, he is most effective,” he added.

Additionally, Ten Hag also mentioned Bruno Fernandez may play a striker role moving forward.

Moreover, United struggled to land only 57 goals in the Premier League last season, a concern Ten Hag vows to address.
