ENGLAND ASSURES SECURITY FOR SRI LANKA CRICKET TEAM AMID RIOTS

Furthermore, England assures security arrangements will be in place for members of the Sri Lanka cricket team amid the riots in London.

Moreover, the England and Wales Cricket Boards (ECB) responded to the concerns raised by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) regarding the tense situation.

The SLC raised concerns after seven of their players and two staff members were already in London for the upcoming Test series.

“Most of the issues seem not to be close to where we are but everyone is still a little concerned,” a player told ESPNcricinfo as reported by Reuters.

“We can’t really go out to dinner or do anything like that. Mostly we stay in the hotel,” he added.

Incidentally, the same player asked the SLC for better security until most of the main team arrives.

SRI LANKA MANAGER TOLD ECB SECURITY PLAN SET BEFORE TEST SERIES BEGINS

Moreover, Sri Lanka team manager Mahindra Halangoda was told about the ECB’s security plan.

He said arrangements will begin before the Test series starts on Sunday.

“I raised the issue with them, but the ECB responded very quickly and sent us their comprehensive security arrangements,” Halangoda said.

“We’ll be having a security liaison on the tour from them as well,” he added.

Furthermore, the manager made the call in light of anti-immigration riots that have occurred in several cities in England.

Incidentally, Halangoda received news reports of incidents in Manchester.

Sri Lanka plays their first Test against England in Manchester on August 21.

On the other hand, the second Test is scheduled at Lord’s on August 29.

UK GOVERNMENT ASSURES LONDON SAFE FOR SPORTS

Furthermore, the UK government assured Sri Lanka and other nations’ sporting bodies that London and nearby cities are safe for sports.

Moreover, members of the UK police will crack down on untoward incidents.

This seeks to avoid violence for citizens and tourists.

Sri Lanka was in a similar position to England in 2022.

This was when Australia and Pakistan raised ethical concerns over visiting the South Asian nation for a bilateral series.

Incidentally, there were reported counter-protests held that were aimed at protecting immigrant-owned businesses.

On the other hand, these protests also seek to safeguard places of worship and other places that immigrants usually go to.
