Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo retires

Chile goalkeeper Claudio Bravo retires from professional football on Tuesday, officially bringing his two-decade career to a close.

Bravo retires from professional football

Bravo, 41, started his professional career in 2002 at local club Colo-Colo before moving to Real Sociedad in 2006.

He moved to Barcelona in 2014, where he teamed up with Lionel Messi and won two LaLiga titles.

After a successful season in Barca, Bravo joined Manchester City and lifted three Premier League trophies.

Bravo last played for Real Betis, where he won the Copa del Rey in 2022.

“Captain America”

Bravo, who earned the nickname “Captain America”, was part of the golden generation that won two Copa America titles.

The Chilean helped his national team win the Copa America in 2015 and 2016 after penalty shootout victories against Messi’s Argentina in each final.

Overall, he represented Chile 150 times after making his debut in 2004.

“I am leaving professional football. I believe I have made the right decision, a well-considered decision. And one that has been thoroughly discussed with my family and close circle,” he said in a video uploaded on Twitter.
