Ronaldo netted his 901st goal

Roberto Martinez’s side looked to endure a disastrous evening. Ronaldo was benched, and McTominay scored only eight minutes into the first half.

Despite dominating the game with superior possession and chances, the host struggled to find the equalizer after the first half concluded.

Ronaldo was then introduced at half-time, and things suddenly looked bright when Bruno Fernandes’s effort was snuck through goalkeeper Angus Gunn.

Scotland’s goalkeeper Gunn redeemed himself with a fine double-save to deny substituted Joao Felix late on as Ronaldo rattled the post twice. However, the shot-stopper could not help his side keep one point as Ronaldo fired home the winning goal.
