THOMAS TUCHEL’S APPOINTMENT AS ENGLAND MANAGER DIVIDED IN LONDON

Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as England manager remains divided in London.

Furthermore, England legend Michael Owen was “disappointed” when the English Football Association formally announced Tuchel as the new national team boss.

Moreover, the 44-year-old retired striker didn’t doubt Tuchel’s credentials but for England’s preference for a non-homegrown manager.

“My only disappointment is that he’s not English,” Owen wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

However, he described Tuchel as “a proven winner with a great understanding of the English game.”

LINEKER, NEVILLE DISAPPOINTED; FERDINAND POSITIVE OF TUCHEL’S NEW POST

Moreover, former England players Gary Lineker and Gary Neville were disappointed, while Rio Ferdinand was positive about Tuchel’s new post.

Furthermore, Lineker preferred interim England manager Lee Carsley instead of Tuchel for the position.

Neville, meanwhile, shared Owen’s sentiment of preferring an Englishman for the position.

“I’d have given the job to Lee Carsley. I have seen enough to suggest to me the players really trust him,” Lineker said.

“It’s not really about Thomas Tuchel, but there’s an element of disappointment in my head thinking about the fact that the FA have gone to an international coach,” Neville added.

However, Neville’s former teammate Ferdinand is convinced “the players will be happy” with Tuchel’s appointment.

“There will be a little bit of anxiety and apprehension, but I’m sure he (Tuchel) will settle that on day one and talk them through how he’s going to get them to win a trophy,” Ferdinand said.

GERMAN EXPERT SAYS TUCHEL NOT WITH SAME ‘WARMTH WITH JURGEN KLOPP’

Furthermore, a German football expert says Tuchel does not carry the same “warmth” as another revered manager Jurgen Klopp.

Moreover, Archie Rhind-Tutt admitted Tuchel’s hiring is still news back home.

However, Tuchel can’t be compared to gaining the same warmth the Germans give to the 57-year-old Klopp.

“It is headline news in Germany. (However), he is not viewed with the warmth that Jurgen Klopp is in Germany,” Rhind-Tutt told BBC Radio 5.

“He didn’t get the results at Bayern he wanted, but qualifies he showed there that made him attractive to the FA,” he added.

Sky Germany’s Kerry Hau found it unexpected to see a German manager taking charge in England.

“It’s quite a big surprise because you don’t expect a German manager as the English national team coach,” he said.
