SHARMA DISAPPOINTED INDIA ‘FAILED AS A UNIT’ AFTER TEST SERIES AGAINST BLACK CAPS

Sharma was disappointed India “failed as a unit” after their Test series against the Black Caps.

Moreover, the India skipper cited “lots of mistakes” committed by his team that led to their demise in all three Tests that ended in Mumbai.

“Definitely, you know, something like this will be a very low point in my career, you know, having lost three games at home,” the India captain said.

“And yes, I fully take responsibility for that as a captain and as a leader,” he added.

India was burned to 121 against a New Zealand side led by Ajaz Patel and Glenn Philipps.

PANT CONVINCED BATTING FIRST IN BANGALORE PITCH WAS ‘NOT RIGHT’

Moreover, India star Rishabh Pant was convinced his team batting first on the Bangalore pitch “was not right” at all,

“Right from the start, I said it. You know, I made a decision about batting first on that Bangalore pitch, which was not right,” the Indian cricketer said.

“And certain tactical errors also, which didn’t go my way. You obviously take chances with those decisions. Sometimes it comes off,” he added.

Pant later blamed himself for India’s downfall, citing his subpar leadership and decision-making approach.

“So yeah, I was not at my best of leadership. And probably cost us the series as well,” Pant said,

“New Zealand played better than us throughout the series. There were lots of mistakes that we made throughout the series,” he added.

KOHLI STRUGGLES A CONCERN FOR SHARMA AS INDIA NEXT FACES AUSTRALIA

Furthermore, India veteran Virat Kohli’s struggles are “a concern” for Sharma as India next faces Australia.

Moreover, the India captain remains confident that his team can correct several mistakes as they prepare for their next Test series in two weeks.

“Obviously, it’s his (Kohli’s lack of runs) a cause of concern without a doubt. If the batters are not performing, that is a cause of doubt,” Sharma said.

“There is a good opportunity for us to go and do something really, really special in Australia,” he added.

Sharma, meanwhile, expects India’s other key cricketers, Shubman Gill, Yashavi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, and Washington Sundar, to sustain their potential in the next Test series.
