Palestine held on against Korea
South Korea entered the third round of the qualifiers as favorites, despite playing on neutral ground in Jordan.
However, Palestine took the lead after 12 minutes when Zaid Qunbar capitalized on an error by South Korea’s Bayern Munich defender Kim Min-jae.
The Tottenham captain levelled four minutes later with his 51st goal for South Korea.
It was the second time in the campaign that the Palestinians had frustrated the Koreans, having secured a 0-0 draw in Seoul back in September.
Son gives credit to Palestine
Palestine has not played a true home game since 2019 due to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
With their recent performances, the Palestinians have a chance to advance to the next round of the Asian qualifiers.
Son noted that his team could learn from Palestine’s resilience despite their recent challenges.
“I want to give a round of applause to the Palestine team,” said Son.
“Seeing them work so hard, even in difficult conditions, is something I think we can learn from.
“I think they were well prepared and executed their plans really well.”
The Asian qualifiers will resume in March, with South Korea set to face Oman and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Palestine will aim to continue their campaign against Jordan and Iraq.
