CANELO, PAUL FIGHT ‘GOING TO HAPPEN’ IN 2024 OR 2025, SAYS MANAGER
A Canelo-Paul fight is “going to happen” either later this year or in 2025.
Furthermore, Paul’s manager, Nakisa Bidarian, expressed confidence that such a pairing cold happen.
Bidarian mande the statement despite Paul and Mike Tyson serving a 24-day medical suspension days after their November 15 fight.
Paul won the fight via unanimous decision at the AT&T Center in Arlington, Texas, amid accusations of rigging.
The 34-year-old Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) is coming off a unanimous decision win over Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas, Nevada, on September 14.
BIDARIAN CITES MAYWEATHER-MCGREGOR FIGHT AS GUIDE FOR CANELO-PAUL
Moreover, Bidarian cited the 2017 Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight as a guide for Canelo-Paul to happen.
Furthermore, any of the US state commissions will need to sanction the Canelo-Paul fight the same way the Mayweather-McGregor bout became possible.
Bidarian said the Mexican champion is definitely “the roadmap for Jake Paul” as they await for the medical suspension to end.
“If they do Mayweather vs McGregor, why wouldn’t they do Canelo vs Jake Paul?” the manager asked on th talkSport boxing YouTube channel.
“In terms of Canelo Alvarez, 1000% that fight is going to happen. Whether it happens this year or next year, that is one that is undoubetdly in the roadmap for Jake Paul,” he added.
CRUISERWEIGHT THE RIGHT FIT FOR PAUL, NOT HEAVYWEIGHT, BIDARIAN SAYS
Furthermore, Paul fighting at cruiserweight in the future is possible compared to the heavyweight division.
Moreover, Bidarian said Paul fighting heavyweights like Antony Joshua or Daniel Dubois may look like “exciting, disruptive things.”
“He (Paul) may look at doing exciting, disruptive things like fighting an Anthony Joshua or a Daniel Dubois, but that is not in his current roadmap,” the manager said.
“He will be campaigning at cruiserweight, and Canelo, to my knowledge, walks around at 190 (pounds),” he added.
Dubois earlier called out Paul to challenge for his heavyweight title, but it’s unclear whether the IBF will sanction it.
