New format for NBA All-Star Game

According to the league’s annpuncement, the All-Star Game will introduce a four-team tournament-style format.

Twenty-four players who make the All-Star team will be divided into three teams of eight players.

The fourth team will be the winning team in the Rising Stars game on Friday night during All-Star Weekend.

Teams will be drafted by honorary general managers and Inside the NBA personalities Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith.

Meanwhile, fellow TNT NBA analyst Candace Parker will serve as the honorary general manager for the Rising Stars.

For each game, the first team to reach or exceed 40 points will win.

The prize pool is $1.8 million, with each player on the championship-winning team receiving $125,000.

Players on the second-place team will receive $50,000, while players on the teams that lose in the semifinals will get $25,000.

Meanwhile, the voting process to determine the 24 NBA All-Stars will remain the same.

Durant “hates” the new format

Meanwhile, Phoenix Suns superstar Kevin Durant expressed his disapproval of the new All-Star format.

However, Durant stated that he is at least leaving the door open to liking the new tournament format.

“I hate it, I absolutely hate it,” Durant said.

“Terrible. All-Star Game format changing, all the formats — terrible in my opinion. We should just go back to East-West. Just play a game. I think we’ve been trying to bring that flare back somehow with All-Star Weekend, I think we just keep the tradition.”

“We’ll see how this one works. You never know, I might be wrong, I’m just another guy with an opinion, but we’ll see how it works.”

The NBA is trying to instill competitiveness in the All-Star Game, which has been said to have been lost in recent years.

The inclusion of the Rising Stars team in the format could increase the intensity, as established All-Stars may not want to lose to a group of rookies, sophomores, and G-League players.
