The arrest, which occurred during a training session, was reportedly witnessed by the player’s teammates. According to The Sun, many initially believed it was a prank as two uniformed officers approached the player on the pitch. Witnesses described the scene as shocking, leaving players stunned and unsure of what was happening.
Although the player’s identity is known to media outlets like Telegraph Sport, it remains undisclosed for legal reasons. He resumed training shortly after the incident and was available for his team’s FA Cup third-round match.
Police confirmed the arrest in a statement, explaining that a man in his 20s had been taken into custody on suspicion of voyeurism. However, no further action was taken due to insufficient evidence supporting the allegations.
Premier League and other ‘sex tape’ cases
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by the Premier League to address issues of consent and misconduct among players. In 2022, mandatory sexual consent training was introduced for players and staff, focusing on building healthy and respectful relationships while raising awareness about harassment and consent. Andrea Simon, director of the End Violence Against Women Coalition, described the training initiative as a much-needed step toward tackling gender-based violence in football.
While the case has been resolved, it underscores the need for continued education and accountability within the sport to prevent such controversies in the future.
