AUSTRALIAN OPEN QUARTERFINALS TO FEATURE EARLY DJOKOVIC-ALCARAZ MATCHUP

The Australian Open quarterfinals will feature an early matchup between Djokovic and Alcaraz in an intergenerational rivalry.

Furthermore, the two marquee names will square off in a quarterfinal of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time after eight head-to-head matchups.

Moreover, Djokovic and Alcaraz often cross paths either in a semifinal or final of a tournament.

The Serbian 24-time Grand Slam winner advanced after his 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(4) win over No.24 Jiri Lehecka to continue their partnership with coach Andy Murray.

Alcaraz reached the last eight after leading, 7-5, 6-1, when British Jack Draper retired in their match due to a hip injury.

ALCARAZ TO USE ‘SAME APPROACH’ IN PLAYING NOVAK IN SEMIS OR FINALS

Moreover, Alcaraz will use the “same approach” he usually had when he plays Djokovic in a semifinal or final of a tournamrent.

Furthermore, the Spanish world No.3 cited the Serbian as “not the right player to play in a quarterfimal, I guess.”

“But facing Novak, for me, it’s not going to change anything if I’m playing him (in a) quarterfinal or semifinal,” Alcaraz said.

“Being in a quarterfinal, I’m going to approach the match the same as I did in the previous matches against him, and let’s see,” he added.

Meanwhile, Djokovic sought an apology fro, Australia’s Channel 9 broadcaster Tony Jones, who called him “overrated” and a “has-been” during an on-air appearance at Melbourne Park.

GAUFF WINS, SADDENED BY TIKTOK’S BAN IN US

Furthermore, Gauff won over Belinda Bencic, 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, at the main stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Moreover, the American’s thoughts during her post-match interview were more on the US ban on TikTok.

She later wrote “RIPTikTok USA” on a TV camera lens.

Gauff admits being one of more than 750,000 followers on TikTok.

She hopes for the platform’s return in the near future.

“I could not access it (TikTok) after my match. I honestly thought I would be able to get away with it because I was in Australia,” the American said.

“Hopefully it comes back… it’s really sad. I’ve been on the app since it was called Musical.ly. I love TikTok,” she added.
