AXELSEN CALLS FOR LONGER TOURNAMENTS, MORE REST DAYS IN BETWEEN

Axelsen calls for longer tournament duration and more rest days in between to pace the players’ health and conditioning.

Furthermore, Denmark’s former world No.1 cited numerous injuries among the top players that deprive fans of seeing them in action.

Moreover, Axelsen noted that the quality of All England and Super 1000 tournaments have been compromised due to multiple absences of these marquee names.

“All England and other Super 1000s could be 10-day plus events,” the Dane said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Give the players 1-2 more rest days, more time to hype up the matches and for the media and the fans communicate with the players,” he added.

DANE CITES MISSING WORLD TOUR FINALS, INDONESIA MASTERS AFTER INDIA OPEN WIN

Moreover, the Dane cited missing the tour major tournaments in between his lone major win this year so far.

Furthermore, Axelsen skipped the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, in December due to injury before he won the India Open two weeks ago.

However, the Dane was forced to miss the Indonesia Masters last week.

Axelsen said the fast duration of tournaments and less rest days in between has compromised the players’ health and performance.

“If not for 10 days, at least a duration between seven and nine days,” the Dane said.

“It can be tried out with at least one event,” he added.

BWF TOLD TO FOLLOW TENNIS GRAND SLAM EVENTS’ LONGER TOURNAMENT DURATION

Furthermore, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) should follow the lead of tennis where the duration of Grand Slam events were extended.

Moreover, Axelsen cited three of four tennis majors, except Wimbledon, whose duration has been extended to 14 or 15 days.

The Dane made the suggestion after tennis’ US Open extends its tournament to 15 days starting this year.

That tournament will be held from August 24 to September 7.

A player that goes through qualifiers must have to play and win seven matches in six days.

That’s how long an unseeded player needs to win the final in Super 500 events.
