Andreeva reaches WTA rankings top 10 as teener; Keys in top five

Mirra Andreeva reaches the top 10 in the latest Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings on Monday for the first time as a teener.

ANDREEVA REACHES WTA RANKINGS TOP 10 AS 17-YEAR-OLD FOR FIRST TIME

Andreeva reaches the WTA rankings top 10 as a 17-year-old for the first time in her young career.

Furthermore, the Russian teener rose five places to a career-high No.9 after she won the Dubai Championships over the weekend.

Moreover, Andreeva became the first 17-year-old to reach that high in the WTA rankings in 18 years.

Nicole Vaidisova was the last to do it in 2007.

Interestingly, Andreeva was born on that year, on April 29.

RUSSIAN TEENER TOPPED SWIATEK, RYBAKINA, VONDROUSOVA EN ROUTE TO DUBAI TITLE

The Russian teener eclipsed several big names on her way to claim the Dubai title.

Moreover, Andreev defeated by current No.2 Iga Swiatek, No.7 Elena Rybakina, and No.46 Marketa Vondrousova to bag the crown.

Furthermore, the Krasnoyarsk native also became the youngest player to win a trophy at a WTA 1000 tournament.

Meanwhile, Andreeva admitted her admiration for retired Swiss star Roger Federer alongf with NBA players LeBron James and the late Kobe Bryant.

“Well, when I want to motivate or inspire myself, I’m watching some of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, and of course my idol since I was very, very young was Roger Federer,” the Russian said.

“Before the match, I was watching some highlights. I was like, damn, how can he play like this? This is something extraordinary,” she added.

KEYS IN TOP FIVE, ONE OF FOUR AMERICANS IN TOP 10

Meanwhile, reigning Australian Open women’s singles champion Madison Keys moved into the top five.

Furthermore, the 30-year-old rose to No.5 to join No.3 Coco Gauff and No.4 Jessica Pegula in good company.

Moreover, they became the first trio from the US in the top five for the first time since 2003.

A fourth American, Emma Navarro, completed the top 10 at No.10.

Belarus’ Aryna Sabalenka remains at No1, followed by Swiatek.
