Barcelona came from behind against Atletico Madrid during Copa del Rey semi’s 1st leg
Atletico struck immediately, with Julian Alvarez firing a close-range shot into the left corner just in the 1st minute after a corner from Clement Lenglet. Five minutes later, Alvarez picked up a counter-attack and set up Antoine Griezmann, who calmly slotted home against his former club to make it 2-0 for Atletico.

Despite the early setback, Barcelona refused to succumb. With pressure mounting, Hansi Flick’s side began their comeback in the 19th minute when Pedri, after receiving a neat pass from Jules Kounde, curled a shot into the right corner, reducing the deficit to 1-2. Then, just two minutes later, Raphinha delivered a dangerous cross from a corner, allowing central defender Pau Cubarsi to head the ball into the net and level the score at 2-2.
The intensity continued to build as the match progressed. Atletico’s Alvarez spearheaded several promising attacks, while Raphinha and Lamine Yamal consistently tested Atletico’s goalkeeper, Juan Musso. Just before halftime, Barcelona took the lead when Raphinha again set the stage by sending in another quality pass from a corner, enabling Inigo Martinez to head in a goal to put Barca ahead 3-2.
Atletico Madrid’s Late Rally
In the second half, Coach Flick made a tactical change by starting Ferran Torres in place of Robert Lewandowski. Then, in the 68th minute, Lewandowski was brought on and wasted no time. Within six minutes of coming on, the Polish striker scored with a well-placed close-range shot, courtesy of a pass from Yamal, extending Barcelona’s lead to 4-2.
However, Atletico Madrid refused to give up. In the 84th minute, Marcos Llorente struck from inside the box to narrow the gap to 3-4. The drama reached its climax in stoppage time when, in the 90+3 minute, Atletico launched one final surge. Substitute striker Samuel Lino, who had come on for Alexander Sorloth, calmly slotted the ball into the right corner, leveling the match at 4-4.
Both teams will now prepare for the return leg on April 2 at Atletico’s home. In the other semifinal, Sociedad will host Real on February 26. This thrilling encounter promises even more excitement as the battle for the Copa del Rey continues.
