ENGLAND, PAKISTAN STILL GET FLAK AFTER DISAPPOINTING CHAMPIONS TROPHY 2025
England and Pakistan still get flak from several quarters after their disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 exits.
Furthermore, former cricketer Michael Vaughan was not surprised England was eliminated after losing to Afghanistan.
Moreover, he noted the “conditions” in Lahore may not be amenable to England, particularly in white-ball play.
“Brilliant from Afghanistan .. Thoroughly deserved win,” Vaughan wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
“England just haven’t played good enough white-ball cricket for a couple of years .. this result isn’t a surprise in these conditions,” he added.
EX-INDIA COACH ADVISES JOS BUTTLER AND CO. TO ‘PLAY IN SUB-CONTINENT SERIOUSLY’
Former India coach Ravo Shastri advised England, led by skipper Jos Buttler, to “play in sub-continuent seriously.”
Moreover, Buttler and his teammates, the ex-India coach noted, should take the travelling and playing at another country on a more focused level.
Furthermore, he noted that Afghanistan played with grace under pressure, led by Ibrahim Zadran.
Zadran’s 177 and Azmatullah Omarzai’s fifer.
Zadran pulled through with 100 off 146 balls, while Hashmathullah Shahidi helped raise 103 runs for the fourth wicket.
Mohammed Nabi also chipped in with 111 runs for the sixth wicket as Afghanistan applied more pressure to a hapless England side.

REPORT CITED ‘INTERNAL CONFLICT’ BETWEEN RIZWAN, JAVED
Meanwhile, a report cited a source saying Pakistan’s untimely exit was due to an “internal conflict” between two key figures.
Furthermore, the rift between team captain Mohammad Rizwan and head coach Aqib Javed, a source quoted by Cricket Pakistan, sealed the hosts’ doom.
Moreover, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi wanted changes in Pakistan’s lineup before the tournament.
However, Naqvi’s pleas fell on deaf ears and has not pursued his plans thereafter.
“Mohammad Rizwan appeared frustrated due to a lack of consultation on key decisions,” the source cited in the report said.
“When he advocated for the inclusion of Khushdil Shah, Aqib Javed went ahead and selected Faheem Ashraf on his own. The selection committee and Mohammad Rizwan were clearly not on the same page,” he added.
