GAVASKAR WON’T COMPARE KOHLI TO TENDULKAR AMID FANS’ SENTIMENTS
Gavaskar won’t compare Kohli to Tendulkar amid the fans’ sentiments to the two Indian cricket superstars.
Furthermore, the retired former India national team captain felt it would be unfair to compare the two players due to many factors.
Moreover, Gavaskar cited different eras, different competitions, and different conditions among other factors.
“I will never compare eras because, you know, playing conditions are different, the pitches are different, the opposition is different,” the former captain said.
“So it is very difficult to compare people. But that is only a weakness if I might call it a weakness, amongst the subcontinent — our comparisons,” he added.
AUSTRALIA, OTHER COUNTRIES NEVER COMPARE FORMER, CURRENT PLAYERS
Gavaskar also reminded fans that other countries such as Australia never compared former and current cricket players.
Moreover, the 75-year-old Bombay Province native admitted he will never stop fans from such talks of comparisons of players.
Furthermore, he also reminded them to “accept the current players as they are” and enjoy their stints before they retire.
“We will always compare players. Have you ever seen anybody asking ‘is Ricky Ponting a better player than Gregg Chappell? Nobody,” Gavaskar said.
“Just accept the current players as they are. There is no comparison,” he added.
KOHLI BREAKS TENDULKAR’S RECORD RAISED FANS’ DEBATES
Kohli breaking Tendulkar’s record for being the fastest batter to score runs in ODI (One-Day International) cricket started it all.
Furthermore, the current India star surprised Tendulkaer as the fastest to score 14,000 runs after India’s win over Pakistan at Champions trophy 2025.
Moreover, Kohli registered 51 centuries in ODI and 82 centuries overall compared to Tendulkar’s 49 ODIs in the last ODI World Cup in 2023.
Meanwhile, Tendulkar also remains among the top in most international runs (34357), most centuries (100), most Test centuries (51), and was the first player to amass 15000 runs in Tests and ODIs.
Kohli took pride in sharing his experience in visiting former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar to boost his performance.
