SINNER REMOVED FROM LAUREUS’ NOMINATIONS DUE TO THREE-MONTH BAN
The Sportsman of the Year only had five nominees.
This was unlike the Sportswomen of the Year’s normal six nods.
Furthermore, organizers cited the removal of Italian world No.1 Jannik Sinner’s removal from the nomination list due to his three-month ban.
Moreover, Laureus World Sports Academy chairman Sean Fitzpatrick cited Sinner;’s ongoing ban after failing two doping tests that prompted their decision.
“Following discussions by the Laureus Academy it has been decided that Jannik Sinner’s nomination for this year’s Laureus world sportsman of the year award is to be withdrawn,” Fitzpatrick said.
“Whilst we note the extenuating circumstances involved – feel that the three-month ban renders the nomination ineligible. Jannik and his team have been informed,” he added.
