United fans urged to wear black
The 1958 fan group hopes it “could be one of the largest ever protests” at United, whose supporters have opposed the Glazer family’s leveraged takeover since 2005.
Additionally, the group asked supporters “to wear black to symbolise how the club is ‘slowly dying’ due to huge debts, mismanagement and fan exploitation”.
The Glazers have been in control of United since a leveraged buyout in May 2005.

“The club is slowly dying before our eyes, on and off the pitch and the blame lies squarely at the current ownership model,” The 1958’s Steve Crompton said in the release.
“The club is facing financial armageddon. Debt is the road to ruin. Sir Matt Busby would be turning in his grave at the current plight of one of the world’s greatest football institutions which is being brought to its knees and in many ways becoming a laughing stock.”
“The club is going backwards and it’s likely to get even worse,” the statement added. “We urge fans to rise up, unite and join us at 3 p.m. on Sunday as we march to the ground and protest against the despised Glazers and the club’s deliberate assault on fan culture.”
What happened to United?
Last September, the club posted a net loss of $144 million in their accounts for 2023-24.
Additonally, United have lost more than £300m over the past three seasons and last week announced there would be 200 further redundancies having shed 250 jobs last summer.

The numbers also revealed that United’s debt interest payments over the past six months totaled £18.8 million.
Meanwhile, a separate protest was organized by the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust during Sunday’s FA Cup fifth-round tie against Fulham.
The defending FA Cup champion went on to lose that match on penalties.
United is currently 14th in the Premier League.
