ICC CHAMPIONS TROPHY POST-FINALS COULD SEE GAMBHIR WITH INDIA ‘A’
An ICC Champions Trophy 2025 post-finals scenario could see Gambhir joining India’s “A” team on its overseas tour.
Furthermore, the 43-year-old coach, according to a report, could be the first to travel with India’s “A” side for its overseas tour.
Moreover, Gambhir welcomes the possibility of joining Team India as it travels to England.
The Press Times of India report could not confirm if Gambir will join either as part of Team India’s coaching staff or as a spectator.
The coach has been in constant communication with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding his plans.
ANALYZING INDIA’S ‘RESERVE POOL’ EARLY COULD BE GAMBHIR’S GOAL
Analyzing India A’s “reserve pool,” the report said, could be one of Gambhir’s goal’s to join the overseas trip early.
Furthermore, the BCCI often assigns National Cricket Academy (NCA) coaches to head India’s “A” and U19 teams instead of the national coach.
Moreover, Gambhir’s move could involve his monitoring for “certain wild card players.”
Additionally, this came after India’s Champions Trophy 2025 title romp over New Zealand over the weekend.
“With India winning the Champions Trophy after Gambhir’s insistence for certain wild card players, one may expect him to assert more in future,” a BCCI source told PTI.
“One of the crucial issues identified is reviving India ‘A’ tours,” the source added.
The source said: “There have been only a handful ‘A’ series after (Rahul) Dravid left NCA.”
“Gambhir too believes that there needs to be more ‘A’ tours. That’s why he wants to take stock of the situation firsthand,” the source added.
