Liverpool 1-0 Everton – Jota Breaks the Deadlock
The first half saw a tense and scrappy battle, with both sides struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, the breakthrough finally came in the 57th minute. Luis Díaz set up Jota with a clever backheel outside Everton’s box. The Portuguese forward skillfully dribbled past Idrissa Gueye and James Tarkowski before firing a low shot past Jordan Pickford to seal the three points.
As expected in a Merseyside derby, the match was filled with physical battles, and one of the most controversial moments occurred in the 11th minute when Tarkowski delivered a dangerous challenge on Alexis Mac Allister.

Tarkowski lunged into Mac Allister with a reckless studs-up tackle on the Argentine’s shin, yet only received a yellow card from referee Sam Barrott. Even after a VAR review, no further action was taken.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville and ex-referee Mike Dean both agreed on live television that Tarkowski should have been sent off.
Everton’s Struggles at Anfield Continue
Everton rarely threatened Liverpool’s goal, with their best chance coming from Beto, who struck the crossbar. The Toffees have now lost their last four visits to Anfield without scoring a single goal since 2022:
- April 24, 2022 – Liverpool 2-0 Everton
- February 13, 2023 – Liverpool 2-0 Everton
- October 21, 2023 – Liverpool 2-0 Everton
- April 2, 2025 – Liverpool 1-0 Everton
Liverpool on the Brink of Premier League Glory
With five more wins, Liverpool can mathematically secure the title before the end of the season, potentially clinching it three rounds early. Even if they win four and draw one of their next five matches, they will be crowned champions before their crucial clash against Arsenal on Matchday 36.

Liverpool now have a golden opportunity to lift the Premier League trophy under new manager Arne Slot, edging closer to reclaiming domestic glory after their last triumph in 2019-20.
