Southampton relegated from the Premier League
A 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in north London sealed Southampton’s fate.
Brennan Johnson’s first-half brace and Mathys Tel’s first Premier League goal earned all three points for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Southampton now hold an unwanted record for the earliest relegation in league history.
Ipswich Town and Derby County previously held the record after they suffered relegation with six matches remaining in the 1994-95 and 2007-08 seasons, respectively.

“We knew it was probably going to be inevitable at some point, we haven’t been good enough all season,” Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale told Sky Sports.
He added: “We were dominated by the better team. We dug in in the second half but it is a sad day and one that this group of players will learn from.”
What’s next for Southampton?
It’s been an abysmal season for the south-coast club, who tried to change course by sacking manager Russell Martin in December.
However, even the appointment of Ivan Juric couldn’t stop their downward spiral.
So far, the Croatian coach has managed just one win in 13 games in charge. During that stretch, Southampton have suffered 11 defeats.

When asked if there had been any discussions about his future, Juric replied, “No, now we will see everything.”
“We are thinking just about the games now. We will see now what everyone thinks, what I think.”
Southampton will host Aston Villa in their next Premier League fixture on April 12.
