2021-22 La Liga week 24 recap

Atlético Madrid bucked an early deficit to turn back Getafe, 4-3.

It was Madrid that initially took the lead, thanks to strikes by Ángel Correa and Matheus Cunha. However, the visitors hit back with three goals in a 12-minute span. Borja Mayoral’s 30th-minute effort was followed up by a pair of Enes Ünal penalties (37’, 42’).

Correa kickstarted the fightback by completing his brace with a header deep into stoppage time of the first half. Mario Hermoso then scored a late winner for the second successive home match while Atleti were down to ten men.

Meanwhile, Sevilla saw off Elche, 2-0.

Both goals were scored late in the contest, Papu Gómez breaking the deadlock at the 70th minute. Rafa Mir headed home a cross from loan signing Anthony Martial five minutes later.

The victory closed SFC to Real Madrid, which settled with a goalless stalemate against Villarreal.

Finally, Barcelona forced Espanyol to a 2-2 draw.

Pedri opened his account just 75 seconds in. This was canceled by Sergi Darder five minutes before the halftime break.

Raúl de Tomás converted a Darder assist at the 64th minute and was closing to end their 15-year drought against the Blaugrana in home meetings. Alas, it was not meant to be as Luuk de Jong sent the ball towards the back of the net with a header deep into stoppage time.
