2021-22 La Liga week ten recap

In a weekend that featured El Clásico, four matches ended in draws in this week’s schedule of the 2021-22 La Liga season. Here is our brief recap of these fixtures that concluded even-steven.

Montoro saves day for Granada against ten-man Osasuna

Ángel Montoro found himself the unlikely hero, scoring at the 90th minute in a topsy-turvy match that had Granada salvaging a 1-1 outcome against Osasuna.

Ezequiel Ávila’s foray in the final minute of the first half turned out to be the last good omen for the home club. José Ángel getting thrown out with 16 minutes to go in the contest was a portend, as the Pamplona-based side found their lead and impending victory nipped just as the match was heading into stoppage time.

Valencia, Mallorca work to a tie

Valencia pulled off an unlikely feat to the delight of their supporters, managing to slot two goals late into injury time to secure a 2-2 tally against Mallorca.

Gonçalo Guedes and José Gayà each scorched one past the keeper five minutes apart, the latter at the eighth minute of stoppage time.

Having a man up advantage proved to be the turning point for Los murciélagos when Lee Kang-in was sent off at the 55th minute. Before this, everything was going Los Piratas’ way with Ángel Rodríguez opening the scoring at the 32nd minute followed by a Mouctar Diakhaby own goal six minutes later.

Benedetto key for Elche draw with Espanyol

Relief is what Elche’s faithful felt after Dario Benedetto scored the equalizing goal at the 84th minute in Los Franjiverdes’ 2-2 contest against RCD Espanyol.

Elche initially grabbed the lead with a 23rd-minute conversion by Lucas Boyé. However, Espanyol took the upper hand after Manu Morlanes and Raúl de Tomás’ twin goals at the 51st and 52nd minutes.

‘El Pistolero’ fires in standoff with Real Sociedad

Luis Suárez was once again the money man for Atlético Madrid, completing a brace and making sure the reigning domestic league champs were able to take a point against La Real.

Suárez’ strike at the 61st minute and penalty make at the 77th negated the two Alexanders’ (Sørloth and Isak) charges to the mouth of the goal at the seventh and 48th minutes, respectively.
