2021-22 UEFA Europa League matchday two recap

With the second matchday of the UEFA Champions League done and dusted, it is now the UEFA Europa League taking center stage with its set of fixtures. Here is our review of select contests.

Leverkusen, Frankfurt conquer opposition

Bayer Leverkusen made short work of Celtic, 4-0, to remain undefeated in the competition. Piero Hincapié, Florian Wirtz, Lucas Alario, and Amine Adli created dents on the scoreboard for the German club.

Meanwhile, Gonçalo Paciência’s breach with a stoppage penalty gave Eintracht Frankfurt the win over Antwerp. Frankfurt is currently placed second on Group D behind Olympiacos, which defeated Fenerbahçe, 3-0.

La Liga clubs with opposing results

Real Betis kept in pace with Leverkusen on top of Group G with a 3-1 victory over Ferencváros.

A Henry Wingo own goal gave Betis the upper hand. Cristian Tello then cemented the result with a 95th minute goal.

Nabil Fekir opened the gates with a conversion at the 17th minute. This was later equaled by Myrto Uzuni just before the first half concluded.

With six points apiece, this sets up intriguing legs between the Spanish and German group leaders.

On the other hand, Real Sociedad were not as fortunate as they endured a 1-1 draw with Monaco. Mikel Merino and Axel Disasi canceled each other with their respective goals.

La Real find themselves at third on Group B with two points.

West Ham continue good showing, Leicester City tumble

West Ham United are on a roll, overcoming winless Rapid Wien, 2-0.

Declan Rice scored one at the 29th minute. Saïd Benrahma then made it double four minutes into stoppage time.

West Ham are all alone on top of Group H with six points.

Leicester City, meanwhile, were edged by Legia Warsaw, 0-1. Mahir Emreli provided the only score of the match.

Due to this, Leicester are in equal footing with Napoli on Group C with one point.
