The overseas venue is still waiting to be decide, but England and Oman are among options to host up to five matches, including at least two India-Pakistan contests.
2023 ASIA Cup
The tournament, which is scheduled to be held in the first half of September 2023, will be in a 50-over format.
India and Pakistan have been grouped together, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are part of the other group.
There will be total of 13 matches to be played across 13 days including the final. As things stands, the 2022 version of the competition will be most likely carried on to this year.
Which means, the top two teams from each group advance to the Super 4s and the top two play for the title.
Pakistan vs India as spotlights
The two cricket giants could possibly play three times, and there are a lot to consider, include the weather.
Temperatures in the UAE usually boil up to around 40-degree centigrade mark, while in Oman, it is much more comfortable as this country’s capital, Muscat, used to host the first round of the T20 World Cup 2021.
Neutral venue
It has been heatedly debated about the a neutral venue for the coming competition as PCB, then under Ramiz Raja – Sethi’s predecessor – immediately responded that Pakistan would pull out of the tournament altogether if it was taken out of the country.
For now, it looks a lot like India will play their Asia Cup 2023 games at a neutral venue, while the rest of the tournament will be played in Pakistan.
