2025 SWISS OPEN FINALS SAW WENG TOPPLE POPOV FOR MEN’S SINGLES TITLE
The 2025 Swiss Open finals on Sunday saw Weng topple France’s Christo Popov, 21-18, 21-3, for the men’s singles title.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old world No.17 engaged his French opponent in a tight opening set.
Moreover, Weng dominated Popov with precision shotmaking until the end.
The rising Chinese star won in 47 minutes to collect his first World Tour title and the second of his career.
Incidentally, Weng gave China it’s first men’s singles title since current world No.1 Shi Yui Qi won it in 2019.
CHEN OVERPOWERS KJAERSFELDT TO COP WOMEN’S SINGLES TITLE
Chen overpowerwed Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt, 21-17, 21-17, to collect the women’s singles title.
Moreover, the 27-year-old world No.13 trailed 11-15 in the opening set before she responded with an 8-0 burst to take it.
Furthermore, Chen also was behind 9-10 but managed to eclipse her Danish opponent.
The Chinese shuttler got to Saturday’s final after she ousted Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani, 21-15, 21-14.
Additionally, Kjaersfeldt earned the right to face Chen after her 21-14, 12-21, 21-17 triumph over Michelle Li in the last four.
This was Chen’s first title in her second finals appearance this year after.
She lost to South Korea’s world No.1 An Se-young at the Orleans Masters.
Chen thus added the Swiss Open to her 2023 Indonesia Open title.
CHINA ALSO RULES WOMEN’S, MIXED DOUBLES; THAI PAIR RULES MEN’S DOUBLES
China actually took four of the five events in the tournament with wins in women’s and mixed doubles.
Furthermore, No.5 seeds Jia Yifan and Zhang Shuxian toppled top seeds Liu Shengshu and Tan Ning in an all-Chinese final, 21-19, 14-21, 21-17, for the women’s doubles title.
Moreover, another all-Chinese final happened in the mixed doubles.
Fifth seeds Feng Yanzhe and Wei Yaxin defeated Zhu Yijun and Zhang Chi, 21-13, 21-15, for the mixed doubles crown.
Dechapol of Puavaranukroh and Kittinupong Kedren prevented an all-China sweep.
The Thai tandem beat Indonesia’s Muhammad Shohivbul Fikri and Daniel Mathurin, 21-15, 18-21, 21-14, to cop the men’s doubles.
