Ronaldo misses penalty as Al Nassr exits King’s Cup
Al Taawoun took the lead in the 71st minute of the round-of-16 match at Al Awal Park in Riyadh through Waleed Al-Ahmed.
Al Nassr were given a penalty in hopes of stretching the game.
However, Ronaldo, who has never missed a penalty in 18 attempts since joining the Saudi Pro League, launched his strike over the bar.
The five-time Ballon D’Or winner has yet to win a major trophy since signing with Al Nassr.
Two chances left
Meanwhile, Stefano Pioli experienced his first defeat with Al Nassr since replacing Luis Castro as head coach in September.
“Technically we performed well but we couldn’t win the game,” Pioli said after the game.
“We feel disappointed to be out of the cup. But we still have two trophies to go for and we will give our best in them.”
The Portugal international and Al Nassr still have two chances at a trophy this season.
However, they are six points behind league leaders Al-Hilal after eight games in the Saudi Pro League and have earned seven points from three group-stage matches in the Asian Champions League.
