ALCARAZ ‘FEELING BETTER’ AFTER WIN OVER DE MINAUR FOR ROTTERDAM TROPHY
Alcaraz is “feeling better” after his 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over De Minaur to claim his first title for the year and his first trophy indoors.
Furthermore, the Spanish world No.3 admitted coping with a cold for most of the tournament .
Moreover, Alcaraz lost the second set after a strong start before he stepped up in the decider.
He thus became the first Spanish champion in the tournament’s 52-year history.
Overall, the 21-year-old bagged his 17 ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) Tour-level title after one hour and 54 minutes.
SPANIARD NOT ‘100 PERCENT’ BUT STILL GOT JOB DONE
The Spanish tennis star was not “100% in the final but he still got the job done against De Minaur.
Moreover, Alcaraz was coming off a tough Australian Open, where he fell short in his bid to be the youngest player to win all Grand Slams.
Furthermore, the world No.3 lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals to shift his focus early on Rotterdam.
“This week has been a really good week all together. Putting in really good work,” Alcaraz said.
“Coming here (not) feeling 100% well with the cold but after every day I’m feeling better and better,” he added.
DE MINAUR ‘PUSHING FOR BIGGER AND BETTER THINGS’ AFTER FALLING SHORT
De Minaur vowed to be “pushing for bigger and better things” after losing in the final.
Furthermore, the 25-year-old Australian fell short in a Rotterdam Open final for a second-straight year.
Morever, De Minaur lost to world No.1 Italian Jannik Sinner in the 2024 title match.
Despite the loss, he will move to No.6 in the latest ATP rankings this week.
“We’re pushing for bigger and better things. It’s been a lot of improvements in my game over the last coupe years and I’m going to keep on pushing for more,” De Minaur said.
“It’s been two years now with this runner-up trophy. I’m hoping I’ll get my hand on the winners’ one day,” he added.
