ALCARAZ FORMALLY WITHDRAWS AT MADRID OPEN

Alcaraz formally withdraws at Madrid due to his muscle injuries that plagued him since the Barcelona Open last week.

Furthermore, the 21-year-old Spanish world No.3 cited his injuries and a “really tight schedule” that led to his decision.

Moreover, Alcaraz made the “tough decision” after listening to his body and his doctors.

“Madrid is one of the special tournaments for me, it’s a tournament that I enjoy,” Alcaraz said.

“These types of decisions are not easy to make but sometimes you have to think about your health and about what is important,” he added.

SWIATEK EDGES EALA, AVOIDS ANOTHER UPSET AXE AFTER MIAMI OPEN

Swiatek edges Eala, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2, as payback after the former was stunned by the latter at the Miami Open.

Moreover, the 23-year-old Polish world No.2 and defending champion avenged a loss against her 19-year-old tormentor from the Philippines.

Furthermore, Swiatek felt the change of surface from the hardcourts of Miami to clay in Madrid played a part.

“On clay I feel like I have a little bit more advantage sometimes in the situations, where Alexandra (Eala) could take more advantage on faster hard courts,” Swiatek said.

“I understand that there’s hype about these young players, but you got to be focused on yourself,” she added.

Furthermore, the American 21-year-old world No.3 won for only the second time after getting swept in the opening set at a WTA-level tournament.

Moreover, Gauff will next face compatriot Ann Li, a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 winner over Leylah Fernandez.

Reigning Australian Open champion Madison Keys, who like Swiatek lost to Eala in her Miami run, posted a 6-4, 6-4 win over Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti.

Another teenage sensation, Russian 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva, also advanced after her 6-3, 6-4 victory over Marie Bouzkova.
