ARGENTINA LEADS FIFA RANKINGS AFTER SECOND-STRAIGHT COPA AMERICA TITLE
Furthermore, Argentina leads the latest FIFA rankings after winning its second-straight Copa America title.
The La Albiceleste defeated Colombia, 1-0, in the final.
France (1,854.91 points) trailed Argentina (1,901.48) to take the No.2 position after reaching the Euro 2024 semifinals.
However, the Les Bleus dropped a 2-1 loss to eventual champion Spain to miss out a finals spot.
Moreover, the La Roja marked their historic return to the European Championship by claiming the No.3 spot.
“Having successfully defended their CONMEBOL Copa America crown, Argentina tighten their grip at the top of the pile,” a FIFA statement said.
“France (2nd) are still their closest challengers after reaching the semifinals of UEFA EURO 2024.
SPAIN, ENGLAND MAKE STRIDES AS BRAZIL STRUGGLES
England, like France, missed the Euro2024 finals but rose to No.4 in the latest list.
This had South American football power Brazil drop to fifth after losing in the Copa America quarterfinals.
“Newly crowned European champions Spain (3rd) have yet more reason to celebrate after hauling themselves into the top three of the ranking,” FIFA said.
“Beaten finalists England (4th) are just behind the leading pack, having leapfrogged Brazil (5th),” it added.
Four European nations occupied the remaining spots in the top 10.
Moreover, Belgium placed sixth, followed by the Netherlands (seventh), Portugal (eighth), and Italy (tenth).
Losing Copa America finalist Colombia took ninth place.
VENEZUELA CLIMBS 17 PLACES TO REACH 37TH
Meanwhile, Venezuela was the biggest climber in the list after it rose 17 places to reach No.37.
Furthermore, Turkey also had a marked improvement by rising from 16 places to No.26 after reaching the Euro2024 quarterfinals.
Uruguay emerged as the fourth-best South American squad after Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia after it reached No.11.
Four more European nations – Croatia, Germany, Morocco, and Switzerland – occupied the 12th to 15th places on the list.
Moreover, the United States dropped five places from 11th to No.16 followed by Mexico (No.17).
Japan emerged as the best-placed Asian squad at No.18, three places ahead of closest regional challenger Iran (No.20).
