Arsenal legend Thierry Henry urged Lionel Messi to rejoin Barcelona
Arsenal legend Thierry Henry urged Lionel Messi to rejoin Barcelona following Paris Saint-Germain fans’ jeers during the capital club defeat by Lyon.
What happened?
FIFA 2022 World Cup champion Messi was subjected to whistles and jeers from the crowd ahead of Ligue 1 clash between PSG and Lyon on Sunday.
Even during a corner, the former Barca could hear the fans chanting ‘Ronaldo’, which is considered outrageous.
Messi lost the ball 26 times in PSG’s loss to Lyon, the most by any player on the pitch. He’s lost 498 possessions in Ligue 1 this season, tied for 4th most. But is it justify to throw jeers to the ‘GOAT’?
Arsenal great Thierry Henry and others raised their voice to protect Messi
Henry, who won Champions League with Messi at Barca said that the jeers from PSG are ’embarrassing’.
“It’s embarrassing to hear whistles from the Parc. You can’t whistle one of the best players on the team, who has 13 goals and 13 assists this season.
“Personally, I would like to see him finish his career at Barcelona, in Europe. After that, I don’t know what he will do. Because the way he left Barcelona after everything he did… I didn’t really like it. For the love of football, he should go back to Barcelona.”
Emmanuel Petit, another Arsenal legend and the 1998 World Cup champions, claimed that:
“The whistles at Messi are an insult to football.”
Messi’s future at PSG in doubt
The biggest question right now, is that will Messi stay at Parc des Princes after all of these insults.
The Argentine icon left his beloved Catalan club as free agent in 2021 as they could no longer afford to extend his contract, but as of now, he is obviously not happy in Paris.
It’s good to know that there have been rumors about the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner could return to Camp Nou.
