ARUM FINDS PACQUIAO RETURN TO RING VS BARRIOS ‘AT RISK’

Arum finds Pacquiao’s impending return to the ring against Mario Barrios on July 19 “at risk” due to his age and inactivity.

Furthermore, the 93-year-old Top Rank promoter is “really concerned” Pacquiao is challenging for Barrios’ World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight title.

Moreover, Pacquiao’s former promoter warned the eight-division champion that he is “at risk.”

“I can’t say anything negative, because Manny meant so much to us and our company,” Arum told The Ring Magazine on Tuesday.

“But it seems really questionable that, at his age, he would put himself at risk by going into the ring with a champion fighter,” he added.

TOP RANK EXECUTIVE COMPARES ‘PAC-MAN’ TITLE BID TO FOREMAN’S FEAT

The Top Rank executive then compared the 46-year-old “Pac-Man” to George Foreman, who became the oldest boxing champion at 45 in 1994.

Moreover, Arum noted that Foreman continued to be active in the ring.

Furthermore, 46-year-old Bernard Hopkins broke Foreman’s record in 2011 when he beat Jean Pascal for a world title,

“I mean, George Foreman wasn’t even that age; he was younger when he beat Michael Moorer,” Arum said.

“And George had been active over the years prior to that fight with Moorer,” he added.

ARUM TO ROOT FOR MANNY DESPITE CONCERNS

Arum, however, vowed “to root” for Pacquiao if such fight pushes through.

Furthermore, the veteran promoter described Pacquiao as “an amazing person.”

Moreover, he believes that if there’s anybody who can do it,” it would be his former ward.

“He’s an amazing person, Manny Pacquiao, and if anybody can do it, he can do it,” Arum said.

“But again, I will certainly be rooting for him, because he’s really a great guy who has meant so much to us as a company,” he added.
