Atletico ban fan for life
Referee Mateo Busquets Ferrer suspended the 1-1 draw between Atlético Madrid and Real Madrid at the Metropolitano on Sunday midway through the second half after fans threw items, including lighters and plastic bottles, toward Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
The referee paused the game for a total of 15 minutes.
Manager Diego Simone criticized Courtois, a former Atletico player, for fueling the situation.
On Monday, Atletico said that “the club has made the decision to permanently expel the person identified yesterday by the police, in collaboration with our security department, involved in the throwing of objects during the derby.”
“Our security department continues to work with the police to identify the rest of those involved, who will be permanently expelled as soon as they are located,” Atletico said.
“The club’s firm conviction to eradicate any form of violence and our defence of the values of sport are unquestionable.
“We will continue to work with all our resources with the aim of eliminating this type of behaviour.”
There was a knife inside Metropolitano?
Meanwhile, another Atletico supporter showed off the knife he brought to the stadium.
El Chiringuito reported that the police chief someone may have concealed the knife in the lighter.
Fortunately, no objects hit Courtois during the incident.
