ATLETICO MADRID LAND ALVAREZ COMPLETING DEAL WITH MAN CITY

Furthermore, Atletico Madrid land Alvarez after the club completed a deal with City for the Argentina striker.

Moreover, the La Liga side will pay up to £95 million (USD104 million) just to acquire Alvarez, who arrived in City in January 2022.

City will receive £75 million (USD82 million) from Atletico up front, while £20 million will be for performance-based add-ons.

Moreover, City made a profit after the Premier League outfit paid £17 million to River Plate for Alvarez’s rights two years ago.

The 24-year-old Alvarez has not yet agreed to personal terms with Atletico.

However, the deal was understood to be a formality, the source told ESPN.

ALVAREZ LEFT AS ARGENTINE CAN’T ECLIPSE HAALAND AS CITY’S TOP STRIKER: SOURCE

Moreover, Alvarez left as the Argentine footballer can’t eclipse Erling Haaland as City’s top striker, the source said.

The prospect of finding more playing time also swung into Alvarez’s decision to leave City, the source added.

Furthermore, City was initially reluctant to let the striker leave.

Alvarez tallied 36 goals in 103 games with City for over two years.

He played a big role in leading the club to win a treble in 2023 before helping City win a Premier League title last season.

Incidentally, the Argentine played in all but two of City’s Premier League matches, when he scored 11 league goals.

CITY MANAGER GUARDIOLA ADDRESSES ALVAREZ’S DEMANDS OF MORE ‘IMPORTANT MATCHES’

Furthermore, City manager Pep Guardiola addressed Alvarez’s demands of being an active participant in the Premier League club’s “important matches.”

Alvarez cited instances where Guardiola left him out of action during City’s crucial matches.

“Last season, I was one of the players with the most minutes at City. But… you don’t like being left out of important matches, you want to contribute,” the Argentine said.

“I know he (Alvarez) wants to play important moments, yeah. But the other ones do too. I read he wants to think about it (leaving City),” Guardiola responded.

Moreover, Guardiola even told Alvarez to tell his agent to call City director of football Txiki Bergiristain and make a decision.

Overall, Alvarez collected 36 goals in 103 matches and has won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, FA Cup, and the Club World Cup.

He also helped Argentina in the recent Copa America title that he added to his World Cup title in 2022.

However, Alvarez failed to help get a medal for his country in the Paris Olympics after Argentina lost to France last week.
