AXESELSEN TAKES MEN’S SINGLES TITLE AFTER WIN OVER LOH KWEAN YEW
Axelsen takes the men singles title he defeatged Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew, 21-19, 21-18.
Furthermore, the Danish world No.7 came back from separate deficits in the opening set to post a straight-sets victory.
Moreover, Axelsen overcame Loh’s 8-3 and 18-16 leads to set himself up for his crowning glory in the second set.
“It feels good. To go home with a title here, it means a lot,” Axelsen said after the match.
“It haas been a lot of long matches, a lot of hard rallies and very good match training for me. So all in all, I’m super happy about it,” he adfded.
LOH ‘PLAYS HARD’ AGAINST ‘FRIEND’ AXELSEN BUT FELL SHORT AGAIN
Loh assured he “played hard” against a “friend” in Axelsen but he just fell short once again.
Moreover, the Singaporean world No.15 was coming off a 21-13, 21-14 decision over Japanese world No.44 Koo Takahashi in the semifinals on Saturday.
Furthermore, Axelsen advanced after beating Frenchman Toma Junior Popov, 21-19, 17-21, 21-17.
However, Loh could not overcome the advantage of the Danish shuttler.
The former world No.1 held a 10-2 lead in their head-to-head matchup prior to Sunday’s match.
Loh last beat the Dane at the Denmark Open in 2022.
YEO JIA MIN DROPS NGUYEN TO WIN WOMEN’S TITLE
Yeo Jia Min gave Singapore its first women’s singles title in the tournament after her 21-16, 21-17 victory over Vietnam’s Nguyen Thuy Linh.
Furthermore, Yeo needed 41 minutes to put away Nguyen as she made up for Loh’s defeat.
Moreover, the Singaporean female shuttler described her Vietnamese opponent as a “very good friend” whom she often accommodates in her training sessions.
“My opponent (Nguyen) in the final is my very good friend. Off court we always eat together,” Yeo said.
“And also she doesn’t have a coach so we train together as well. She’s also been improving and she has a good attack and I hope that we both can keep getting better,” she added.
