Barcelona – La Liga has rejected the Catalan side’s attempt to register Dani Olmo before the January deadline, leaving the club in a difficult financial position. The Dani Olmo Situation at Barcelona
Dani Olmo is technically a free agent, which means he could sign with another club. However, his agent, Andy Bara, has reassured fans that Olmo’s priority is to stay with Barcelona, stating, “We are not considering any other option.”
Even so, if the issue persists, Barcelona faces severe financial consequences. Even if he leaves, they would owe Olmo £41 million ($51 million) in wages until 2030. Additionally, the club still needs to pay £47 million ($59 million) to RB Leipzig as part of the transfer deal. On top of this, Barcelona would lose the chance to earn a transfer fee for Olmo, whose market value is estimated at £53 million ($66.5 million).
Broader Financial Challenges for the Catalan side
The Dani Olmo saga is just one piece of a bigger problem. During renovations, Barcelona recently sold VIP boxes at the Spotify Camp Nou for £87 million ($109 million). However, experts believe they could have earned double that amount, missing out on an additional £87 million.
Altogether, these losses could exceed £218 million, which Barcelona cannot afford given their financial struggles.
What’s Next for Barcelona?
Barcelona could resolve the registration issue by January 3, but the odds appear slim. This is more than a sporting setback—a financial crisis that could affect the club’s operations and ambitions for years.
In the meantime, Barcelona will focus on their upcoming matches, including a Copa del Rey clash against Barbastro and a Supercopa de España semi-final against Athletic Club. However, the unresolved Dani Olmo situation remains a significant concern as the club faces one of the most challenging chapters in its history.
This situation underscores the urgency for Barcelona to stabilize their finances and resolve their internal challenges before they spiral further.
